This is the final fit-up of the carb and the radiator. As you can see by comparing the two fotos above, by moving the radiator forward (towards the firewall) I was able to eek out just the clearance I needed between the carb and the radiator. You can also see the difference in inlet locations. The new radiator has the inlet coming into the top of the tank.
Note that the air horns are actually sitting at a slight angle in relation to the barrels, pointing towards the rear of the car. Many thanks to my friend Pat who donated them for the project. I don't know what their original application was but they were absolutely perfect. Straight air horns would still interfere with the radiator shroud.
The clearance is about .25", just enough to make me concerned about the air horn making contact with the shroud at maximum engine mount flex. Fortunately this never turned out to be a problem. Moving the radiator forward meant the rubber shroud had to be stretched fairly tight. Fortunately there was enough stretch in the shroud for it to work.
More to come.
